Our History

Tamworth Treated Timbers has a rich history that roots back to its beginnings in Yarrol Road, Kootingal. As the demand for timber grew, the small business relocated itself to its current site on the corner of Roses Lane and the New England Highway. The business initially utilised CCA (copper chrome arsenate) for timber treatment before transitioning to ACQ (alkaline copper quaternary). Today, Tamworth Treated Timbers prides itself on its commitment to environmental sustainability by utilising the innovative and eco-friendly MicroPro treatment. This evolution reflects the company's dedication to harnessing advanced technologies and processes while maintaining a strong focus on environmental responsibility. The 70 year evolution of TTT has seen many owners and lease holders that have drastically impacted the business both positively and negatively, but for the past four years, the site has seen a fresh start with a new manager. Battling through natural disasters, the COVID-19 lock downs, and community hesitation, Tamworth Treated Timbers is proud to be growing and regaining its trust within the community.

Our Regenerative and Eco-Friendly Process:

At TTT, we pride ourselves on having one of the most beneficial eco-friendly processes within the industry.

It all begins within the forests, where there will inevitably be timber that does not meet standards. This can vary from a wide list including wings, round backs, short cut or non square timber, and pulp log or wind thrown trees. Not every tree or piece of timber is suitable for your home, but this is where it all starts.

A lot of major projects throughout the Tamworth region opt for what we call a “rural style” product. These products come from the “non standard” timber we just mentioned and transform into beautiful posts, rails and slabs. They often come with a live edge, a small amount of bark or a non precision cut.

By finding a way to use this resource, forestry waste is dropping significantly throughout the three mills we source from, but even so, we are still left with the un-millable timber. From there, we take said timber and chip it. This begins our regenerative cycle.

Chipped timber creates one of our best selling products, microchip. This is used within stables, calf pens, chicken coops and so many more animal and high traffic areas. Eventually customers have muck piles that we take back and transport back to our site and compost. From there, our compost is spread through our bottom paddock. This area of the site was previously covered in waste timber and scrap that significantly impacted the ground area.

As a result of using the compost, we now have an improved block of land attracting wildlife and new growth, ready to plant the next generation of trees. As for our customers, they have reduced waste and peace of mind knowing they’re helping improve the area.

But thats not all. Within the TTT office, we have a few products like bio char and woodettes. The woodettes come from recycled hardwood and are 100% Australian made. Bio char is made from forestry waste and is perfect for enhancing soil vitality. You can find more about these products in store or in our “products” section.
